As an innovation performer, TRTech fast tracks innovation to market by working with its ninety-nine industry, government, and academic partners and clients to invent, modify, and/or prototype market-driven technology. TRTech research activity focuses on three themes: Wireless; ICT Security; Data Analytics and Emerging Sectors. Labs in Edmonton, Calgary, Saskatoon, Regina, and Winnipeg employ 250 people. The TRTech consortium has grown to become the largest not-for-profit applied research consortium in Canada, and one of the most industry-invested R&D vehicles in Canada – at around fifty per cent.

TRTech offers three types of services:

• Long term R&D projects – Including Applied Research activities such as developing proof of concept and prototyping)
• Short term R&D projects – Developing prototypes and supporting commercialization)
• Market Research – Including Technology Assessments, Market Assessment)

In addition, TRTechoffers access to state-of-the-art lab facilities and equipment, and positions itself as a single window into the innovation system for commercialization needs. TRTech is well-networked with Telecom service providers, SME / ISV Application developers, Technology vendors and University professors and students to further enhance its ability to solve technology development and commercialization challenges of the industry. From time to time, TRTech also facilitates new programs to assist entrepreneurs. The current programs are the Jalisco/Alberta Innovation and Commercialization Program, and Javelin.
