Established in 1990, NRC-IIT conducts scientific research, develops technology, creates knowledge and supports innovation. The Institute collaborates with other governments, industry, and universities to develop innovative information technologies that address Canada’s needs in healthcare, learning and the electronic marketplace. With labs in three Canadian provinces – Ottawa, ON, Fredericton and Moncton, NB, and Gatineau, QC – NRC-IIT enables Canadian firms to turn federally-funded research into products and services aimed at global markets; creating a competitive advantage for Canada.

With approximately 250 employees, the Institute has a critical mass in key scientific competencies including artificial intelligence, intelligent internet applications, human-computer interaction, data and text mining, computer vision, and learning and cognition within seven research programs, 3D Imaging, Modeling, and Visualization, Human-Computer Interaction, Intelligent Internet Applications, Knowledge Discovery, Learning and Collaborative Technologies, and Natural Language Processing.
